The freshly made ondeh-ondeh at Aku & Dia on Jalan Hang Kasturi off Jonker Street have inspired us to make our own. The Melaka-made glutinous ball snacks have got so much gula melaka filling the sugar's crystals are still intact at the core, even after surfacing in the pot of boiling water. Every bite is a pillowy pop of smoky, sweet liquid, and light crumbly crunch. We inhaled ten (RM2 for five pieces), and ordered another two portions before we were done. So many ideas have taken root, so many seeds planted. It's been a powerful, enlightening 2015 -- trying at times, but those moments make you stronger, and hopefully wiser, better, more patient. Leaves had to be shed, and branches cut off for new ones to sprout. Before we dive into the new year and its possibilities, I'm taking a moment to acknowledge the present. For the present is awesome, and without it I couldn't go daringly into the future.
